Frost offers us then a way to think about Hobbes’s thinking-bodies. We are determined by so many factors, so many influences, that in effect, we are not determined at all. Although there is no autonomous agent at the center of our self for Hobbes, we remain such complex beings, with such a rapid chain of thought (she reminds us that Hobbes tells us that “Thought is quick” [Frost 2008: 53]) that there remains a space for something akin to “self” authoring in Hobbes (when we realize that the sources and options for that self are not what a Cartesian or Kantian philosophy would lead us to expect).7
